Christmas planning

October 25, 2009

Christmas isn’t too far away and what better way to show someone you love them than by infecting them with some Infectious Designs jewellery?

While the website is still under construction, if you’re interested in seeing some of my designs or wanting to place an order for some custom made jewellery, beaded or metal, you can email me at infectiousdesigns@gmail.com.

Once the website is up and running, keep a look out for a competition. The prize will be a custom made Infectious Designs necklace!

Featured!

Just a quick update to say…

Infectious Designs has been featured in the latest issue of Creative Beading magazine!

Hip hooray!

To celebrate, here’s one of the pieces that’s been included with the article 🙂

Rockpool

Lying Dormant

October 9, 2009

The studio has lain dormant for some time now while I’ve been trying to get my brain around certain changes in my life. Nothing to worry about as such, but after not having been up there for a while it tends to be a little bit more difficult to get back into the swing of things.

The new website is coming along nicely and should be ready for testing in the not too distant future (you rock Tim!). After which it’ll be all systems go and hopefully I’ll have plenty of orders to keep me busy and motivated.

I’m in the process of making a locket as my final project for TAFE. It’s cupcake shaped, and if all goes to plan the cherry on top will be the latch. It’s just a little bit exciting!

Look for some new (and I’m hoping, more regular) posts soon, but in the mean time here’s some more eye-candy for you.

Iced Green

Project From Tafe

August 16, 2009

I’ve been working on this ring for the past two Fridays at Tafe, and I’ve brought it home to finish it off.

anemone ring

He’s an anemone! He’s going to have a little picture of a clown fish swimming about in resin in the underside of the ring, so it looks like he’s been eaten by the ring (and to hide the mess the easy solder left behind).

In other news, I’ve quit my job at the bead store and am now focusing on getting Infectious Designs up and fully running. Starting with my website… soon!

Promo - Necklaces 0709Many, many necklaces and…

Promo - Buttons 0709just a few button brooches too.

Life’s been getting in the way of fun again!

Work on my new website is well under-way, and I’m sure if it weren’t for my lack of time and concentration recently, it would probably almost be finished by now (Sorry Tim!).

The exciting news is the imminent arrival of my new jeweller’s bench! I went and had a look at it last night and am very excited to start working on it as soon as possible. I’ll be spending most of today cleaning and reorganising the studio to make way for my lovely tall bench (hooray for no more sore backs!).

I’ve got a question; what do you like/don’t you like about the composition of this photo:

Paper Series - Autumn…I’m trying to decide how I want my jewellery to look on my new website. Should I stick with my arty-farty style or would you prefer to look at something less abstract when perusing my designs? Answer in the comment section if you feel like it.

I put in the hard yards over this past long weekend and spent most of it in my lovely studio, which is slowly getting organised, not quite at the neat stage yet and certainly not tidy!

I spent most of Monday experimenting with some new techniques and have found some exciting new possibilities which I will be sharing with you over the next few weeks as I continue to experiment and perfect. I also spent a chunk of time making some jewellery for my personal collection (to be worn tomorrow night, to the Pink concert no less!).  A chunky, layered chain necklace with one of my new Library Series pendants (more info on those soon!) and a bunch of little brass butterflies scattered throughout. Made myself my first pair of metalwork earrings to – a rectangle of gilding metal (similar in colour to brass, just a little ‘softer’) with a little curly design stamped on top. I’m really enjoying combining black nickel toned chain with brassy coloured charms, it’s a little grungy and not quite right, yet it works so well!

Saturday was my marathon day (I needed to rest on Sunday after this effort!). I spent 5 hours in the studio, working on one piece. The piece named in the title of this post – yes, my first commissioned Infectious Name Necklace (name pending, any suggestions?) is finished! Here it is, as a work-in-progress:

That’s before I gave it a final emery and a coating of special laquer that will prevent it tarnishing too much. It’s made of 1mm copper sheet, and I am damn proud of those saw lines – barely had to file the insides at all (yay!). I’m looking forward to giving it to her, hopefully she loves it.

A Fresh Start

June 8, 2009

I’ve decided to have a fresh start here at WordPress, thanks to the urging of several of my friends. This particular fresh start also means a fantastic new website in the works. I don’t know when, but when it gets here it will be amazing! A fresh start also means new jewellery, which is exactly what I have for you here; a sneak peek at some new designs!

I’m still accepting orders while the site is under construction, so if you have something in mind and want it made let me know! Email (infectiousdesigns@gmail.com), Facebook and you can even follow me on Twitter!
